Diabetes and HbA1c by Dr Ryizan Nizar

HbA1c is the one blood test you need to be super familiar with if you have Diabetes.
When you check a blood glucose level using finger-prick testing, it tells us what your blood glucose is in that point of time and also gives us a slight idea as to what it had been over the last couple of hours.

But beyond that, it’s difficult to get an idea of what your diabetes control has been over the last few weeks based solely on blood glucose levels.

This is where HbA1c comes in to play. This is a simple blood test for which you don’t have to fast. HbA1c gives us an idea of what your average blood glucose was over the last 3 months.

Below is a simple guide on how to interpret your HbA1c.

How can My DiabetesConnect Help?
The App will help you in two ways. When you enter your latest HbA1c result the Tile, Graph and list view all will go either Red, Amber or Green helping you instantly identify if it is at target, above or very high.

The App will also calculate you an estimated Average Glucose(eAG) which will give you an idea of your Average Blood glucose based on your latest HbA1c. This will help you even more to understand your latest HbA1c result.
